Due Season
Posted September 26, 2026
“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth” (Gen. 1:1 KJV). Genesis Chapter 1 is where we read the story of the Creation, how all that God spoke was orderly and intentional. God spoke, and “light” was divided from “darkness”; the waters gathered together; dry land and vegetation began to appear. God placed "lights" in the heavens “and let them be for signs, and for Seasons, and for days, and years” (vs. 3-14, KJV). We all may have a testimony of when we believed we were in a “good place” in life. You were satisfied in the “realm” that influenced your standards and your growth. comfortable with the mindset and the methods, until you weren’t.
Dr. Dharius Daniels, in his sermon series “Relationships”, teaches there are times when our environment or our acquaintances no longer help us grow or move into our purpose. What’s worse, we may have feelings of guilt and find our happiness suffering because of loyalty or sense of duty to what once worked for us. When this happens, Dr. Daniels says, we are Out of Balance with the season our life is. Sometimes, he goes on to say, it’s God who stirs up these feelings of being out of balance. The question we must ask ourselves is, “Does this season no longer serve God’s purpose for my life?”
Dr. Daniels uses the story of the Israelites in Egypt as an example of being out of balance. Joseph, son of Jacob, was taken to Egypt as a slave after his brothers sold him. They deceived their father Jacob, saying a wild animal had killed Joseph. Years later, Joseph has earned a position of authority with the Pharoah. These same brothers, Jacobs sons, come to Egypt in search of food during a famine. The famine was a season that matched their need to move, all a part of God’s plan. Their descendants multiplied and grew in numbers during their time in Egypt, and this became a threat to those in power. Dr. Daniels says their problem was not just being in Egypt. Their problem was the season: the season of famine was over, and now they were stagnant - stuck in Egypt - suffering oppression and persecution as servants. They were in Egypt beyond the Season of need that brought them there.
Dr. Daniels also says some of the problem is holding on to what Egypt used to be, holding on to what it provided in the past, holding on to what used to satisfy you. You stay because it’s better than where you were. Are you in an Egypt season, feeling stagnate, stuck, out of balance? Dr Daniels tells us we must examine and admit our emotional attachment to a season we no longer need. He labels us “bad stewards” of our future when we choose loyalty to an old season or allegiance to something that may be unhealthy for our growth. Is God trying to tell you something? It may be enough for others, but don’t let others impose on where God is leading you.
Hebrews 12:1 says “Lay aside the Weight” that is hindering you. It’s not always evil, but it Is unproductive for you in this season.
